Design
Designed by award-winning architect Angelo Candalepas of Candalepas Associates, the brief was to give two buildings – the original 1876 five-story Porter House and the new Porter House Hotel – MGallery, an integrated design aesthetic that reflected effortless duality.
The brand new Porter House Hotel – MGallery pays homage to its original site by incorporating modern takes on original features, including contemporary curved windows that reference the building’s historical brick archways. Soft curves and arcs are an interior and exterior theme, supple leather detailing is used throughout as an ode to its former incarnation as a leather merchant, while lamps are playfully mismatched – one vintage, one modern – to symbolise the immersion of heritage and modernity.
