Martin Place Christmas tree
Sydney’s Christmas lights return to the city, offering a moment of reflection, beauty and togetherness throughout the festive season. In the heart of the CBD, the city’s most iconic streets and public spaces are illuminated with decorative lights, stars and installations that invite visitors to slow down and take in the season.
At Martin Place, the tallest Christmas tree in NSW stands proudly, adorned with more than 110,000 LED lights, a striking colour-changing star and hundreds of handcrafted baubles. The tree’s design celebrates Australian flora, featuring thousands of sculpted flowers inspired by banksia, waratah, bottlebrush, wattle and other native blooms. Each evening, choirs perform beneath the tree, filling the city with music and festive spirit.
Across the CBD, visitors can wander through Martin Place, Pitt Street Mall’s Canopy of Light, George Street and Sydney Town Hall, where buildings, streets and poles glow with coordinated light displays. Every 15 minutes from 8pm to midnight, the city transforms into a kaleidoscope of colour, creating a memorable experience for locals and visitors alike.
Just moments away, The Porter House Hotel Sydney – MGallery Collection offers an elegant city retreat, perfectly placed for guests exploring Sydney’s Christmas illuminations. After an evening stroll through the lights, return to boutique luxury, heritage charm and the comfort of staying right in the heart of the festive action.
Throughout December, additional choir performances take place across Sydney’s village precincts, adding warmth, music and community spirit to the season.
